Abstract
The paper discusses the present state of knowledge of road vehicles in-motion weighing systems (WIM). The paper presents classification of equipment, the current area of applications and the Central Office of Measures potential for research determining metrological characteristics necessary for type approval, initial verification and subsequent verification. The experience and technical expertise of the team on law-enforcement WIMs, concerning systems construction and examination of their properties, are also described. The paper presents the idea, originated by the AGH University of Science and Technology, Krakow, of the use of WIM systems for law-enforcement, i.e. their potential application to continuous vehicle weight control in a manner similar to the way the speed enforcement cameras are employed.
