Abstract

The history of the kilogram as the mass measurement standard, from its beginnings during the French Revolution, through the Metre Convention, to modern times is presented. The most important facts that took place in its over two hundred years of the history were discussed. The perspectives of the new kilogram after its redefinition were pointed out.
