Time Service

The Central Office of Measures provides the Internet service that allows time synchronization in computer systems with the official time in Poland. The service is carried out through two servers with the names:

  • tempus1.gum.gov.pl
  • tempus2.gum.gov.pl

Time servers are located in the Central Office of Measures, in the Laboratory of Time and Frequency. They are synchronized with the national time and frequency standard. The NTP protocol is used for time transfer (for detailed information about the protocol, please visit www.ntp.org). The method of time synchronization depends on the operating system of the user's device - sometimes the correct program is a part of the system, in other cases additional software should be used. The NTP protocol allows to synchronize time with uncertainty from tenths of a second to single milliseconds, and in some cases even up to several microseconds (depends, among others, on the quality of telecommunications links between the client and the server, link loads and the user's hardware and software platform).

The service is available 24 hours a day and free of charge. Please send all questions and comments by e-mail to: timegum@gum.gov.pl
