Metrology and Health at the 20th Science Picnic
Thousands of guests viewed shows, participated in workshops and contests taking place during the 20th Science Picnic organized by the Polish Radio and the Copernicus Science Centre. Alongside the Central Office of Measures (GUM) above 200 exhibitors from different universities, scientific institutes and research institutions arranged their exhibition stands at the PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw on Saturday 7th May 2016. This year event, guided by the slogan "HEALTH", was accompanied by the beautiful and sunny weather and excellent ambience fostering dissemination of the scientific knowledge.
At numerous exhibition stands the visitors could learn interesting facts and observe fascinating effects from the area of medicine, natural sciences and history as well. At its stand, the Central Office of Measures offered some presentations giving to the picnic participants an opportunity to learn better how the metrology is linked to the medicine and health.
The visitors of the GUM stand checked with enthusiasm how does the breath analyzer work and tested owned by them optical glasses and sunglasses, obtaining in this way data on the UV and VIS radiation damping level. Furthermore, very popular especially among young visitors, was the reflex test. Every visitor could check his or her time of reaction and learn how does a device for checking watch's rate - the chronocomparator - work.
The Central Office of Measures takes part in the Scientific Picnics continuingly. The picnic is the biggest scientific open-space event in Europe. The next opportunity to learn more about topics linked to metrology in our daily life is coming soon. On Saturday 14th May 2016 everyone who missed the Scientific Picnic or would like to see more is invited to visit the Central Office of Measures open to the public during the Warsaw Night of Museums.
