GUM employee as the OIML representative to the JCGM Working Group
OIML is one of the major international metrology organisations that focuses its activities on the global harmonisation of procedures and regulations related to legal metrology.
The 57th meeting of the International Committee of Legal Metrology (CIML), held on from 18 to 20 October 2022, approved the nomination of Dr Agnieszka Zoń as one of the representatives of the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) to the Working Group on the International Vocabulary of Metrology operating within the Joint Committee for Guides in Metrology (JCGM-WG2:VIM) of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM). Dr Zoń will replace the previous long-standing delegate of the OIML, Dr Jerzy Borzymiński.
The mission of JCGM-WG2:VIM is to develop and update the terminology of the “International Vocabulary of Metrology - Basic and General Concepts and Associated Terms” (VIM) and to promote the vocabulary and definitions contained therein. The VIM covers by its subject matter the common and basic principles describing metrological terminology, quantities and measurement units used by scientists, engineers, laboratory medicine professionals, teachers and practitioners involved in their fields in planning or performing measurements irrespective of the level of their uncertainties. It is also intended to be a reference point for, among others, governmental and inter-governmental bodies, trade and professional associations and accreditation bodies.
OIML is one of the major international metrology organisations that focuses its activities on the global harmonisation of procedures and regulations related to legal metrology. The organisation has more than 60 Member States and numerous Corresponding Members from around the world.
It is important to emphasise the fact that being nominated and elected as one of the two delegates of the OIML to the Working Group, such an important for global metrology, is associated with prestige and constitutes a high distinction for the Central Office of Measures, as well as for Dr Agnieszka Zoń, and it also means that the previous activities of the representative of the GUM within JCGM-WG2:VIM and OIML TC 1 have been appropriately recognised.
