Published by: Adam Żeberkiewicz

The 9th EURAMET General Assembly took place in Krakow, Poland from 1 to 5 June 2015. The meeting of the European Association of National Metrology Institutes was attended by 100 guests representing European NMIs and other organizations and institutions cooperating within the European metrology framework. The EURAMET GA is the highest authority and decision making body of EURAMET that meets every year. This year’s GA was the biggest EURAMET meeting ever occurred with respect to the number of participants. Moreover, it was a really challenging task for the hosting institutions organizing this event: the Central Office of Measures and the Regional Office of Measures in Krakow. Several meetings, workshops, plenary sessions and scientific symposium taking place during 5 days required excellent coordination and a lot of effort. The 4th and the 5th day of the event were dedicated to the meetings of the EMPIR Committee dealing with the European Metrology Programme for Innovation and Research projects.

Thanks to the honorary patronage of the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy Mr. Janusz Piechociński, the personal attendance and opening speech delivered by the Deputy Minister of Economy, Ms Grażyna Henclewska and welcome evening organised by the President of the city of Krakow, Professor Jacek Majchrowski, the Polish administration of measures has got the best possible promotion support. A very important part of the Polish delegation at GA played representatives of the Polish Designated Institutes: Dr Ryszard Broda from the National Centre for Nuclear Research POLATOM Świerk, Poland, and Professor Anna Szmyrka-Grzebyk from the Institute of Low Temperature and Structure Research of the Polish Academy of Science Wrocław, Poland. According to the new EURAMET strategy the DIs should play more important role in the European metrology collaboration.

During the scientific symposium on “Metrology meeting the challenges in energy, environment and health” the Polish candidate to the CIPM elections at the 25 CGPM Paris, 2014 - Professor Ewa Bulska from the faculty of chemistry of the Warsaw University - gave a presentation: Metrology in chemistry as a smart specialization of Poland: the collaboration between Główny Urząd Miar and University of Warsaw which pointed out the good cooperation between the Ministry of Economy, Central Office of Measures and University of Warsaw.

Please, find attached the letter of appreciation received by the President of the Central Office of Measures Ms Janina Maria Popowska from the outgoing and incoming Chairs of EURAMET: Mr. Kamal Hossain and Mr. Beat Jeckelmann.
